DO YOU TEACH BEGINNERS?
Yes definitely! I teach a lot of beginner students and it has been extremely rewarding to see them progress into fantastic drummers.
DO YOU TEACH ADULTS AS WELL AS CHILDREN?
Of course! A lot of the students I teach are adults who have either always wanted to take up the drums or have experience prior and want to get back into playing or develop new skills and techniques.
WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED AGE TO START LEARNING DRUMS?
The recommended age to begin learning the drums is between 6 and 7 years old as they should be able to reach the pedals of the drum kit and ultimately it comes down to your child's willingness to learn.
WHERE DO THE DRUM LESSONS TAKE PLACE?
Drum lessons take place in Edinburgh and from the comfort of your own home as I travel to you. However, I do also offer drum lessons online on Skype and Zoom if this is something which you would prefer.
DO I NEED A DRUM KIT BEFORE I START LESSONS?
Owning a drum kit is not necessary for you to start learning to play the drums, however, finding a drum kit to practice on within a few months of your first lesson is important.
There are loads of spaces in Edinburgh where you will be able to practice drums. For example you can use a number of rehearsal studios which are dotted about the city or your local church or school and even the Edinburgh central library (no thats not a typo!) The library has music rooms which you can hire to practice in.

WHAT IF I HAVE NEVER PLAYED AN INSTRUMENT BEFORE?
That is completely okay! Having some knowledge when it comes to reading music helps but it is not necessary. Learning music theory can sometimes discourage a student however, my approach works on a learn as we go basis which makes it less tedious.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY LESSON?
If you need to cancel a lesson there will be no charge but you must give 24 hours notice. If you cancel a lesson within the 24-hour period you will be charged the normal tuition rate for that lesson.
DO I NEED TO DO GRADES?
No you don't need to do grades! I offer a range of different options to suit you. For example, this could be learning some of the songs you love. Grades can be excellent for some people and they do provide more of a structure to the lessons however, they don’t suit everyone’s development. You can change your mind whenever you like and there will never be any pressure to do them.
